Halfway thoughts
When I chose my word in January, I had a very clear picture of what living it would look like. I was wrong about almost all of it.
The word has taken me to places I didn’t expect — conversations I would have avoided, decisions that felt too big, a quietness in the mornings that I’ve slowly learned to trust. It’s been uncomfortable in the way that growth is uncomfortable: not painful exactly, just stretching. If you’re still searching for the right focus, this guide to choosing a word of the year walks through the process with more than 100 word ideas to help you find the one that fits.
In May in Australia, autumn is ending and winter is arriving. There’s something fitting about that for me this year — a season of gathering in, of turning inward, of making the inside of things warm and good. If the shift in seasons has you feeling a little flat, I’ve put together 101 ways to beat the winter blues that might help you stay warm and intentional through the colder months ahead.
If your word has drifted or you’ve lost sight of it in the busyness of the first half of the year — now is a good time to pick it back up. The year is only half over. There’s still time for it to do its work. If you’d like to see how others have been living with their words since January, you can read the February One Word link-up check-in to get a sense of where the community was a few months ago.
Link up! I’d love to hear where you are.
