It’s nearly that time of year again — when the new year feels close enough to be exciting but far enough away that you still have a buffer of Christmas chaos to get through first.
Which means it’s time to start thinking about your One Word for 2013.
If you’ve been doing this practice with me for a while — thank you. Hearing how people’s words have shaped their years is one of the things I love most about this little corner of the internet.
If you’re new here: the One Word Challenge is simple. Instead of resolutions, you choose one word to guide your year. One word that captures something you want more of, something you want to become, something God seems to be pressing into you. You sit with it. You return to it. You let it work on you. If you’d like a deeper look at how to approach this process, this guide to choosing a word of the year walks through it with over 100 word ideas to help you find the right one.
The buttons are here!
To celebrate another year of the One Word Challenge, I’ve made free blog buttons so you can display your word proudly on your sidebar.
🔘 Free One Word 2013 blog buttons
Available in several colour options. Right-click to save, and please link the button back to this post so others can find the challenge.
The buttons are simple — just space for your word in a pretty frame. Because your word is the star, not the design. If you run into any trouble getting your button set up, there are step-by-step instructions for adding a One Word button to your blog sidebar that should help you get sorted.
How to choose your word
I get asked this a lot. Here’s my honest answer: I don’t choose it, exactly. I sit with it. I pray. I notice what keeps coming up — in my reading, in conversations, in the quiet moments. And eventually the word makes itself known.
Sometimes that happens in December. Sometimes it happens in February and you spend January with a placeholder. Once you have your word, you’re welcome to link up your One Word 2013 introduction post and share it with the community.
Start paying attention. Your word is probably already circling.
What are you hoping for in 2013?
