Welcome to the Confident Heart Book Study

Something a little different today — I’m hosting an online book study, and I’d love you to join in.

The book is A Confident Heart by Renee Swope, and it’s about overcoming self-doubt and living in the truth of who God says we are. I picked it up at a Christian bookshop late last year and have been meaning to work through it properly ever since. A book study feels like the accountability I need.

Why this book?

Because I am a champion self-doubter. I second-guess my parenting, my writing, my housekeeping, my friendships. I compare myself to other mothers and find myself wanting in ways that are simultaneously petty and painful. If any of that resonates — this book might be for you too.

Renee Swope writes with warmth and honesty about her own struggles with insecurity, and she grounds everything in scripture in a way that feels practical rather than preachy. It’s the kind of book that makes you feel less alone in your own head. If you find yourself carrying that familiar weight of not measuring up, these encouraging words for mums who feel like they’re not enough might speak to exactly where you are right now.

How the study will work

  • We’ll work through one or two chapters per week
  • Each week I’ll post a discussion question or reflection prompt here
  • You share your thoughts in the comments — as much or as little as you’re comfortable with
  • No pressure, no marking, no homework. Just reading and conversation.

How to join

Simply grab a copy of the book (available from Koorong and other Christian bookshops in Australia, and online) and leave a comment below letting me know you’re in. That’s it! If you enjoy books that take faith seriously and ground their message in scripture, you might also love The Atonement Child by Francine Rivers — a deeply honest piece of Christian fiction that I recommend wholeheartedly.

We’ll start next Monday. I’m really looking forward to this. There’s something lovely about reading together even when we’re in different lounge rooms across the country.
